Digital changemakers competition: Apply to win $20,000

Digital changemakers competition, a contest which aims to reward technology based innovations that improve the lives of communities and impact future generations is calling on applications from social entreprenerus for an opportunity to win $20,000.

The digital changemakers competition which is in its 5th year is hosted by Tigo Tanzania – the leading innovative telecommunication company in the country, in partnership with non-profit organization Reach for Change. This year, the competition is focused on innovations in education, entrepreneurship and broadening digital inclusion.

Of all entries received, the two winning ideas will receive a cash prize of $20,000 each, and get access to the Reach for Change incubator, business training, and a global network of other social entrepreneurs.

“We are thrilled to be running the Tigo Digital Changemakers’ award with a new focus this year. Our team is very excited to support digital innovations that will improve education, digital inclusion and business entrepreneurship in Tanzania,” said Woinde Shisael, Tigo’s corporate responsibility manager.

“They have made good use of funding, coaching, mentorship and together they have reached more than 10,000 children and youths,” Shisael added.

To apply, start-ups must fulfill these three conditions:

Must have at least a prototype i.e the technical core functionalities of the product must have been developed with main features already functional

Must be scaleable i.e have the potential to change the lives of many people nationally, regionally or even globally

Must be financially sustainable i.e the social enterprise and business model is financially self-sustainable

Must be impactful i.e provide genuine solutions to problems faced by society and have the potential to improve lives directly or indirectly, especially the lives of children

Must be capable of instigating real change i.e the social enterprise must solve society’s issues in a big way and in the long term
