UBA Launches Online Payment Portal in Ghana

ENTERPRISE54 – E-commerce in Africa is set to receive a boost as one of Africa’s leading commercial banks United Bank for Africa(UBA) launches its online collection and payment portal ‘U-Bills’, in Ghana.

The desktop and mobile-supported platform allows users make payments for goods, services and utilities to registered merchants, and is available in 18 other countries where UBA has offices.

Already, top registered merchants on U-Bills include leading telecom operators MTN, Etisalat, Glo, and Airtel.

Other service providers also registered on the payment platform include; Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), Abuja Geographic Information Systems, Bells University of Technology Limited among others.

Commenting on the development, UBA Divisional Head e-banking, Yinka Adedeji, said “with the introduction of U-Bills, this means, it no longer matters where you are in the world. So far you are African and are from any of the Countries where UBA is, you can now pay your bills, top up phones of your loved ones and still pay for services without moving an inch.”

According to official statement U-Bills accepts VISA, MasterCard and other local Card schemes in its different operating countries, and attracts no monthly or annual charges.
