It was a combustible atmosphere at the Lagos Oriental Hotel this week as the inaugural edition of the Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) took place with hundreds of women and some gentlemen in attendance. With the theme – Investing in Women Entrepreneurs: Unleashing Africa’s Economic Growth, speakers made concerted efforts to infuse their audience with a passion to empower the girl child and to support fellow women towards achieving gender equality in the work place.
Spanning two days, the conference featured former VP Africa Region at the World Bank, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, as the keynote speaker. There were also several plenary sessions with accomplished women entrepreneurs (and a few men) on the panels, examining different angles to the theme of the conference.
Irene Ochem’s ICO Conferences and Events Limited hosted the event in partnership with the International Women’s Society Lagos, LEAP Africa, and the Business School Netherlands.
