ENTERPRISE54: Nigeria’s Largest Online Marketplace Konga.com just upped its delivery game to stratospheric heights! Thursday it announced a partnership with Nigerian Postal Service NIPOST to use its 5,000 post offices as pick up locations for Konga orders!
The implication is Konga just gained unprecedented nationwide delivery network and closer access to customers all over the country without making earth-shattering capital expenditure.
Commenting on the development, Director of Fulfillment Operations for Konga, Wale Adisa said: “With this move, we are leveraging on NIPOST’s incredible reach of about 5,000 locations across the country. We are also giving our customers more flexibility to choose the shopping options most convenient to them”.
As part of the agreement signed by the two organizations, NIPOST’s EMS delivery service would also be leveraged as an additional channel for quick and affordable nationwide delivery service for Konga Marketplace sellers.
Key event attendees included, NIPOST Post Master General (PMG), Mallam Mori Baba – represented by Deputy Post Master General (DPMG) Osadolor I.P Eboigbodin, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mrs. Omobola Johnson who was ably represented by her Special Assistant on Policy, Dr. Abiodun Jagun; the Director of Fulfillment Operations for Konga, Mr. Wale Adisa, the CEO of Konga represented by Konga’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Mark Russell as well as NIPOST Area Postal Manager for Lagos Mainland, A.E. Abianga.
Deputy Post Master General (DPMG) Osadolor I.P Eboigbodin said that the partnership is also in line with NIPOST’s goal of creating quality partnerships and customer base for its services. This could mean Konga would be paying for deliveries fulfilled through EMS.
Additionally, Konga CEO Sim Shagaya in an exclusive interview revealed the online retailer’s delivery unit KExpress is expected to train NIPOST workforce on latest practices and ecommerce in return for the massive real estate.
Since opening up Konga Marketplace to small and medium-size businesses via its SellerHQ marketplace in 2014, more than 10,000 traders have registered on the site. Konga’s revenue grew 450% from 2013 to 2014, the company also launched its private logistics company KExpress last year, to augment the delivery of its products, previously solely handled by third party courier companies.
The online retail giant’s goal is to have a minimum of 50,000 sellers registered on its platform by the end of 2015.
