The Supporting Social Ventures of Africa foundation, have declared 2015 edition of the annual competition Student Social Venture Program (SSVP), open. The competition is an avenue to improve the performance and participation of social ventures that have the ability to create significant social change in the global context through financial and advisory supports.
Established by the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation ans Entrepreneurship, SSVP was created as a response to the relative paucity of African teams at global social business plan competitions, and the lack of technical, financial and institutional support and sponsorship at their disposal. The foundation therefore basically enhances the functionality and instrumentality of these groups.
For participation, the venture must be scalable; must have a huge potential growth, must be potentially sustainable and financially profitable, must have a quantifiable social bottom line incorporated into its mission and practices, must be less that two years old and finally, it must not have received more than $250, 000 in funding or a lifetime revenue exceeding $500,000 till the end of the year.
Before the winners are selected, all highly potential teams are provided with the necessary support with a view to connect ideas and business skills to produce more scalable and robust social ventures that have the ability to create significant social change in the global context.
The winner of the competition takes a grand prize of $50,000 and a lot of advisory and mentorship support. The top two most eligible team selected at the end of the competition will be guaranteed a spot at the Global Social venture regional round in London with lots of supports from the sponsors of the foundation. Eligible social ventures can also participate in other international students competitions.
The SSVP is supported by a number of local foundations, businesses and investors, namely, SAB Foundation, Bertha Foundation, and Edge Growth. The deadline for application to compete is November 30th 2015. You can apply and get more information here.
