Ready Set Work: Lagos state approves ₦15.5m seed fund

The Lagos State government has announced the approval of ₦15.5m seed fund for final year students of Lagos owned tertiary institutions registered with the Ready Set Work (RSW) program.

RSW is a capacity building program of the Lagos State Government for final year students of tertiary institutions leveraging on technology, private-sector driven and facilitated curriculum to equip participants to be entrepreneurs and have employable skills. It is aimed at preparing Nigerian youths for economic productivity by exposing them to the rudiments of running a business.

About 500 students from Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), and Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) have been enrolled in a curriculum either in the employability track or the entrepreneurship track since June, 2016 and the 13-week program has entered its penultimate week.

According to reports, top corporate organizations like PwC, SystemSpecs, FCMB, GTBank, Access Bank, TOTAL, Jobberman etc will house over 90 top performing students in the employability track for a 6-month internship while about 80 of them in the entrepreneurship track will undergo a 3-6 month internship program to learn the pros and cons of running a viable business venture, understand and develop processes for various business functions, and build a network of vendors, industry peers, and mentors.

The ₦15.5 million seed fund and working capital will be made available for the top three teams to emerge from the RSW Business Pitch Competition, which will hold on the 3rd of September 2016.
