Founded in 2007, Flying Doctors is an air ambulance emergency organization owned by 28 year-old British-Nigerian Doctor, Olamide Orekunrin. Ola who graduated as one of the youngest medical doctors in England is also a trained helicopter pilot. Her training as a doctor and pilot, coupled with the shortcomings of delivery of emergency medical service in Nigeria, she founded Flying Doctors.

She was listed among Young Global Leaders by World Economic Forum in 2013 and has also lectured on entrepreneurship in Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr Dayo Olakulehin is a graduate of Medicine from the University of Lagos and the CEO and founder of LigandCorp, a medtech startup dedicated to using technology to innovate medical solutions for use in health facilities in developing nations.

Back in 2012 during his time in medical school, it was one of those odd moments when he dozed-off due to fatigue having manually ventilated a 5 year-old boy for about 4hours. According to him, had he not woken up at the time he did and the boy was without ventilation for another 4mins, it would have led to an irreversible brain damage. This was the thinking that led to the invention of his first product under LigandCorp. This product is called the D-box – a battery powered portable alternative to the conventional ventilators which eliminates the need for humans to manually compress the cardio-pulmonary resuscitation bag.

University of Lagos graduate of Medicine and techpreneur, Seyi Taylor launched EbolaFacts.com in order to provide millions of Africans with information concerning the deadly ebola virus ravaging the continent. Since the launch of the site, it has received over 600,000 visitors with contents on the site written in 5 different languages; English, French, Swahili, Yoruba, Pidgin, Igbo and Hausa. He is also the CEO of Big Cabal Media.

Solaris Intergrated Services is a medical diagnostic company that specializes in diagnostic imaging. The growing need for proper diagnostic services and the frequent misdiagnosis of medical conditions that has led to many unwarranted deaths in Nigeria, inspired Moses to startup a well equipped diagnostic company. He was also shortlisted for the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP).

Ehizele Joseph-Ebare; Founder, The Sustainable Medical Initiative

The 21 year-old undergraduate of Medicine at Barts and the London school of Medicine and Dentistry believes that it is bad enough to be sick and accessing quality healthcare ought to be made easy. With her company, she intends to use technology to break the barriers in accessing quality healthcare. According to her: “we will make it easy for the rich and poor alike to see a doctor, get a diagnosis and get recommendation on treatment. Say goodbye to long waits, long trips and closing times,’’ adding that these barriers are unbearable for people who are ill.

She was also amongst the shortlisted winners for the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP).
